2025 Oscar Nominations: Full List (A Totally Unofficial, But Hopefully Fun, Prediction!)

Hey everyone! So, the 2025 Oscars are still a ways off, but I'm already buzzing with excitement – and a little bit of nervous anticipation! Predicting the Oscars is like trying to herd cats; it's chaotic, unpredictable, and sometimes downright infuriating. But hey, that's part of the fun, right? I've been following film for years, and even I've been totally blindsided by some wins. Remember that year that movie won Best Picture? I was shocked. Anyway, I'm gonna take a crack at predicting the nominees. Remember, this is totally unofficial – pure speculation based on my (admittedly biased!) movie taste and some early buzz. Consider this my "pre-pre-predictions"!

Best Picture: My Totally Subjective (and Possibly Wrong) Picks

This category is always a rollercoaster, isn't it? The frontrunners shift faster than I can say "Best Supporting Actor." But based on what I've seen and heard, these are my wild guesses for 2025:

• "The Martian Chronicles Part 2: Revenge of the Potatoes": Sci-fi epics always do well, and this sequel is rumored to be even bigger and better than the first. Plus, who doesn't love space potatoes?
• "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs 2: The Electric Boogaloo": The Coen brothers are back with another anthology film, and the early buzz is insane. Expect quirky characters, dark humor, and possibly some banjo music.
• "The Silent Scream": A powerful drama about a young woman fighting for her rights—it's got that awards-bait quality written all over it.
• "Midnight in Manhattan": A stylish crime thriller with a top-notch cast and a twisty plot. Expect tons of award chatter.
• "Echoes of the Past": An ambitious historical drama that’s already generating Oscar buzz. It's epic in scale, though I’m a little worried about pacing.
• "A Dog's Purpose 3: The Final Bark": Okay, this one is probably wishful thinking on my part. But hey, stranger things have happened!
• "The Great British Bake Off: The Movie": Okay, maybe not Best Picture, but you never know! I'm predicting a surprise nomination here for its sheer heartwarming charm.
• "The Unlikely Friendship": A feel-good movie about an unlikely friendship. Seems like an Academy favorite.

Best Director: The Masterminds Behind the Madness

Predicting Best Director is tricky. Sometimes it aligns perfectly with Best Picture, other times it's a total curveball. I'm going with:

• Quentin Tarantino (for "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs 2"): Dude's practically a shoo-in for a nomination. He's a legend.
• Ava DuVernay (for "The Silent Scream"): She's a force of nature. I'm guessing her powerful directing style will resonate with the Academy.
• Christopher Nolan (for some mind-bending thriller, let's call it "Interstellar 2"): You just know it's gonna happen. The guy’s practically a deity in some circles.
• Greta Gerwig (for something wonderfully whimsical and unexpected): Her unique vision is always a refreshing addition to the cinematic landscape.
• Denis Villeneuve (for "Dune: Part Three: The Spice Must Flow"): He’s built a solid reputation for big-scale directing. This is another lock in my book.

And the Rest…

Predicting the entire list is impossible! But I have a feeling we’ll see a lot of strong performances in the acting categories. Seriously, we are in for some truly wonderful films next year!
