2025 Oscar Nominees Announced: My Totally Unbiased (Mostly) Predictions & Reactions!

Okay, people, buckle up! The 2025 Oscar nominations are FINALLY here, and let me tell you, it's been a WILD ride. I mean, seriously, the anticipation was killer. I've been glued to every awards show prediction, every critic's review, every single gossip column since, like, September. It's become an unhealthy obsession, I'll admit it. But hey, who doesn't love a good awards season drama?

My Totally Wild Guesses (Before the Announcement)

Before the envelopes even thought about being opened, I was convinced "The Crimson Tide," that historical drama with all the amazing costumes, would sweep the board. I'd even started mentally drafting my acceptance speech for Best Costume Design because, honestly, I am obsessed with historical dramas. I envisioned myself on that stage, shimmering, thanking my mom...It was all pretty epic in my head.

And let's be honest, the acting was top-notch. But alas, my predictions were, shall we say, optimistic. I totally underestimated the power of "Whispers of the Wind," that indie film everyone was talking about after Sundance.

The Snubs & Surprises (Oh, the Drama!)

Remember how I was so sure "Crimson Tide" would dominate? Yeah... that didn't quite happen. The big surprise, and I'm still reeling from it honestly, was the complete shutout of "Crimson Tide" in the major categories. I know, right? Total shock! We're talking Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor – nada, zip, zero. My heart sank faster than a lead balloon. Talk about a major upset!

But the Academy always throws us a curveball, doesn't it? This year's snubs were even more baffling, to me, anyway. It's all about the balance, right? But the surprises actually made the whole announcement way more exciting.

The Actual Nominees (Finally!)

Okay, so here's the breakdown, according to the official announcement (I triple-checked, I'm serious). We saw several well-deserved nominations and some real head-scratchers, as always. The big winners (at least, in terms of nominations) this year include "Whispers of the Wind" with, like, eight nominations! Go figure. "Echoes of the Past" was also a major contender snagging some really strong nominations for cinematography and score. And then, you had your usual suspects in the supporting roles, which is always interesting to see.

Okay, so what did I learn this year? Well, for starters, don't put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your predictions, people! Secondly, it seems like the Academy is really feeling the indie flicks this year. Who knew? Next year, I'll be paying much closer attention to smaller films coming out of film festivals. Also, maybe not start writing acceptance speeches before the nominations are even announced. That's what I call rookie mistake number one!

This entire experience taught me that Oscar predictions are a bit of a crapshoot, a really fun one, but still a gamble. It's more about enjoying the ride.
