Predicting the Academy Award Nominees for 2025: My Wild Guesses (and Why I Might Be Totally Wrong!)

My Totally Unofficial (and Possibly Ridiculous) Predictions

Best Picture: This is the big one, the heavyweight champ. I'm throwing my hat in the ring for "Dune: Part Two" – the visuals alone should be enough to get it nominated, let alone the story. Plus, there's always a mega-budget blockbuster vying for this one. Another contender? Maybe a surprise indie darling that comes out of nowhere, and totally blows me away. You never know! Last year's unexpected hit proves that anything is possible.

Best Director: Denis Villeneuve for "Dune: Part Two" seems like a safe bet, right? He's already a fave with the Academy. But wouldn't it be awesome if a fresh face, a total newcomer completely upends this category? I’m rooting for an underdog!

Best Actor: This is HARD. So many talented guys out there. I'm gonna go with a risky prediction: Someone who isn't even on anyone's radar right now, proving you need to look beyond your usual suspects sometimes. To be honest, I haven't got a clue, but hey, that's part of the excitement.

Best Actress: I'm placing my bets on a seasoned actress. But who? Again, I am stumped. This is a tough category to predict. There will be a bunch of incredible actresses giving stunning performances next year.

Best Supporting Actor & Actress: This is the wildcard category! Anyone could pop up here, honestly. I am throwing a dart blindfolded. It’s a complete guess.

My Biggest Oscar Blunder (and What I Learned)

I gotta tell you a story. A few years back, I was so sure that a certain movie was gonna clean up at the Oscars. I even wrote a whole blog post about it. The movie completely bombed. It was embarrassing.

The lesson? Don’t get emotionally invested in your predictions! Seriously. It's just a bit of fun, a hobby. There's no use getting frustrated because it's a prediction. It's never a sure thing, and that’s okay.

Also, do your research, but not too much. I got caught up in the hype, and forgot to actually watch the films critically. I just read reviews and followed the buzz. This wasn't useful or critical enough for good predictions. Next time, I will actually take the time to see the films first.
