Predicting the Academy Awards 2025 Nominees: My Wild Guess (and Why I Might Be Wrong!)

Best Picture: The Contenders (And My Gut Feeling)

My money's (hypothetically) on something Marvel-related, always a safe bet, especially if it gets great reviews.

This year, I’m expecting something with powerful themes that resonated really strongly with people. I'm hoping for a movie that tackles difficult topics with sensitivity and grace, even if it is low budget. This one is harder to predict, it's a real wildcard.
• The Historical Drama: Hollywood's love affair with historical dramas is legendary. We'll probably see at least one meticulously crafted period piece. Think costumes, intrigue, and maybe a famous figure. My guess is this will likely be one of the more predictable nominees.
• The Unexpected Hit: This is the wild card. It's the film nobody saw coming, but which takes the world by storm. This is the one I'm MOST likely to be wrong on, because, hey, it's unexpected! This could even be a documentary.

However, I have a feeling that a woman filmmaker might finally get a well-deserved nod, particularly if her film is critically and commercially successful. We need more diversity in this category! It's long overdue.

Best Actor & Best Actress: The Stars Align (Hopefully!)
