News from Antioch High School: A Year in Review (and Some Totally Random Thoughts)
Hey everyone! So, I've been meaning to write this post for ages – it's about my alma mater, Antioch High, and all the crazy stuff that's happened this year. I graduated like, a million years ago (okay, 2003), but I still keep tabs on things, mostly because my little cousin's a freshman now, and she's already causing a ruckus.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Antioch High's Rollercoaster Year
This year at Antioch High has been, well, a mixed bag. Seriously, it’s been a rollercoaster. There were some amazing highs, and some seriously low lows. It felt like one giant emotional seesaw!
The Triumphs: School Spirit Soars!
First off, the school's robotics team, the Antioch Antennas, totally killed it at the regional competition. They even won a scholarship! I'm still so proud. That was a major win for the school; everyone was buzzing about it for weeks. It was huge for the school's reputation. The kids worked so hard, even putting in extra hours after school and weekends. That's dedication. They should all be extremely proud of themselves. Seriously, these kids are gonna change the world one circuit board at a time.
And then there was the school play! "Hamlet" – I know, right? A bold choice! But, the kids absolutely crushed it. The performances were stellar; I was blown away. My cousin even had a small role. Seriously, these kids are talented. I felt so much pride for those kids, especially seeing how dedicated they were.
The Challenges: Dealing with Budget Cuts and More
But let's be real, it wasn't all sunshine and roses. The school faced some pretty serious budget cuts. They had to cut back on extracurricular activities, including some of the after-school programs. That really sucked, especially for the kids who rely on those programs for everything from homework help to a safe space. The school is really struggling with funding these days, so that situation is heartbreaking.
We also had some unfortunate incidents – a couple of fights that really rocked the school. It's just sad to see that kind of negativity. The school administration is trying to address these issues; they're implementing new conflict-resolution programs. Hopefully, things will improve. They really need to improve things; it's crucial.
My Advice (From a Slightly Older and Wiser Alum):
Look, I know high school can be tough. It's a stressful time; I remember. But here's some advice from someone who's been there:
- Get involved: Join clubs, sports, or volunteer. It's a great way to make friends and build your resume.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help: Teachers and counselors are there to support you. Utilize those resources!
- Stay positive: High school is temporary. Focus on the good stuff and try to find joy in the daily moments.
Looking Ahead: Hopes for Antioch High
I truly believe that Antioch High has a bright future. The school has some incredible teachers, dedicated staff, and most importantly, a bunch of talented and resilient students. I hope the administration gets the funding they need, the drama calms down, and the school continues to thrive. They are resilient, and they can overcome these challenges. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Go Ants!
