Oscars 2025 Nominees: Full List (Predicting the Future, Because Why Not?)

Best Picture: My Bold Predictions

Predicting Best Picture is like trying to herd cats while blindfolded. It's a crapshoot, but hey, that's what makes it fun! Here's what I'm thinking, based on completely arbitrary criteria and a healthy dose of wishful thinking:

• "The Martian Chronicles Part Deux: Revenge of the Potatoes": Because, let's face it, space movies are always a crowd-pleaser. Plus, potatoes are just inherently cinematic.

• "Shakespeare in Space: A Rom-Com": A completely original film idea that will totally sweep the awards. Mark my words.

• "The Quiet Revolution: A Documentary About My Aunt Mildred's Knitting Circle": Okay, maybe this is a bit of a long shot. But documentaries are always in the mix, and Aunt Mildred's knitting club is surprisingly dramatic. There's been betrayals, stolen yarn... high stakes.

• "The Unlikely Hero: A Squirrel's Tale": Animals doing amazing things always get the Academy's attention, and a talking squirrel who saves the world? Pure gold.

• "Zombie Apocalypse: The Musical": Because, who doesn't love a good musical zombie flick? It'll have the critics raving. It'll be a phenomenon. It'll win.

Best Director: A Battle of Titans (Probably)

This category is always fiercely competitive. My gut says we'll see some familiar names alongside some exciting newcomers. I'm thinking:

• Greta Gerwig: She's a perennial favorite, and let’s face it, she deserves all the awards. (This prediction is less based on psychic ability and more on basic respect for her genius).

• Quentin Tarantino (if he ever decides to make another movie): If Q.T. makes a film, he’s a shoe-in. That is if he ever decides to direct another film. His absence is noted.

• Some brilliant newcomer I haven’t heard of yet: Because there's always a surprise, some fresh talent that totally blows everyone else out of the water. This is my chance to predict the future. It’s brilliant.

Best Actor & Actress: Stars Align?

Picking Best Actor and Actress is always tricky. You've got to consider box office success, critical acclaim, and…well, who knows what else goes into it.

I'm calling:

• Best Actor: Someone brooding, mysterious, and capable of both subtle emotional depth and intense action scenes. (Please let it be a character actor who finally gets their due!)

• Best Actress: Somebody equally impressive, possibly with a quirky and lovable character. Think someone who can nail both comedy and drama.

Don't Forget the Technical Awards!

Let's be real, the technical awards are where the magic happens. The cinematography, the sound design, the editing – these awards make the film the art form that it is! I'm sure there will be some insanely creative work deserving recognition. But I can’t predict those with any certainty. I am but a mere mortal.

My Own Oscar Blunder: A Story of Epic Proportions

I once went to an Oscar viewing party where I swore I knew who would win Best Picture. I was SO sure. I even made bets. Guess what? I was wrong. Spectacularly, embarrassingly wrong.
