Hey everyone, I'm writing this because something awful happened in my community, and I know a lot of people want to help, but might not know how. On March 31st, 2023, a horrific shooting in Antioch, Nashville, left three innocent people dead. It was devastating, and honestly, I'm still reeling. I felt compelled to share what I know, and how we can all pitch in.

It's hard to process something like this, ya know? The news felt surreal at first, like something you'd see in a movie, not your own backyard. It hit close to home— my niece used to work at the Covenant School. Although this was a different location and thankfully, she was unharmed, the whole thing still makes my stomach churn. I started thinking, "What can I do? How can I help?" This led me down a rabbit hole of resources and information, and I wanted to share my findings with you.

Understanding the Impact

The Antioch shooting wasn't just a tragedy; it left families shattered and a community grieving. Beyond the immediate loss of life, there's a ripple effect. People are scared, anxious, and struggling to cope. There's a lot of unseen suffering going on. We need to support those directly impacted, as well as the broader community.

Ways to Show Your Support

There's no one "right" way to help, but several avenues can make a difference. Here are some options I've found effective:

• Donating to established funds: Several established charities are collecting donations to support victims' families and community recovery efforts. I recommend researching reputable organizations and choosing one that aligns with your values. Be cautious of scams; verify the legitimacy of any organization before donating.

My Personal Experience (and a Mistake!)

I initially wanted to organize my own fundraising event, thinking it would be a great way to help. It was a HUGE undertaking and frankly, a complete disaster. I underestimated the logistics, the paperwork, and the emotional toll it took! I learned a valuable lesson: sometimes, the best way to help is to support established efforts instead of trying to create your own from scratch. Lesson learned!
