OSU Victory Photos: Notre Dame Game - A Buckeye's Rollercoaster Ride
Hey Buckeye Nation! Let's talk about that nail-biting win against Notre Dame. Man, what a game! I'm still buzzing from the electricity in the stadium, and I know you guys are too. This post is all about capturing those amazing OSU victory photos, and sharing some tips from my own photographic adventures (and misadventures!).
My Epic Fail (and Lessons Learned!)
I'll be honest, my first attempt at photographing a big OSU game was a total disaster. Picture this: 2015, the Horseshoe packed to the rafters, and I'm armed with my trusty (at the time) point-and-shoot camera. I was so excited, I didn't even think about the lighting. The result? A bunch of blurry, dark photos that looked like they were taken through a potato. Seriously. Potato quality.
Lighting is EVERYTHING!
That was a harsh lesson, but a valuable one. Lighting is crucial for capturing great sports photography. Especially in a stadium. The low light conditions mean your camera needs to work harder, and if you don't have the right settings, you'll end up with blurry images. I now always shoot in manual mode. This gives you control over shutter speed, aperture and ISO. This is far more important than thinking you need the best camera.
The Shutter Speed Secret Weapon
For action shots like a touchdown celebration, you need a fast shutter speed. Think 1/500th of a second or faster to freeze the action and avoid motion blur. Remember that potato-quality photo I mentioned? Yeah, my shutter speed was way too slow.
Beyond the Field: Capturing the Atmosphere
It's not just about the game itself, though, right? OSU victory photos should capture the whole experience. I've found that some of my favorite shots are of the crowd, of people celebrating, and of the energy in the stadium. This adds layers to the experience, don't you agree?
Zoom In, Zoom Out
I used to only focus on zoomed-in shots of the players. Now I mix it up. I take a few wide shots to capture the overall atmosphere. Then, I zoom in for some close-up action shots. It's all about variety! This approach helps you tell a more complete story.
Gear Up for Glory
You don't need a top-of-the-line camera, but a decent one helps. I upgraded to a mirrorless camera and it's a game-changer. This allows for better low-light performance. A long zoom lens is also a must-have; you need to be able to zoom in on the field. I also found that having a spare battery is a must!
Pre-Game Prep is Key
Charge your batteries. Check your memory card space. Do all of this the night before. You don't want to miss capturing that amazing game-winning moment because your battery died. Trust me on this. It's happened to my friends and it stinks.
OSU Victory Photos: Tips for Success
- Practice makes perfect: Experiment with your camera settings before the big game. Take some practice shots.
- Shoot in RAW: RAW files contain more image data than JPEGs, which means you have more flexibility for editing.
- Use burst mode: Capture multiple shots in quick succession to increase your chances of getting the perfect action shot.
- Tell a story: Your photos should tell a story. Mix up your shots from different angles, distances, and perspectives.
The Notre Dame game was epic. And capturing those moments through my lens was even more rewarding than the win itself! I hope my tips and stories help you get those awesome OSU victory photos you’ll cherish forever. Go Bucks!
